What I've Learned Being a Jag

Ever since I started here at South, everyday has been a new experience. With those new experiences came new lessons learned and new skills. Before I came to South I struggled with managing my time. I would either procrastinate until the night before an assignment was due or work myself so much I forget to take time to rest and end up burning myself out. Through my First Year Experience course my professor taught me how to organize my planner in a way that I could make time for me to get my work done and also leave space for me to have downtime. Now while time management is a key factor in success, one of the most important things being a Jag has taught me is to be myself. On this campus we have a very diverse student body. I've met so many different people from so many different walks of life and in that I realized that there is no such thing as "standard" or "normal." Being a Jag I've learned that normal is what I make it and not letting anyone change you.

Jags Give Back

There are many ways for a Jag to give back to his or her community, but I've learned through personal experience, the single most best way (in my opinion) to give back is by applying for Recruitment Services. I remember when I first started looking into South and how stressful it was. From figuring out how to apply to deciding whether or not I wanted to live on campus, I was lost. And if it wasn't for the helpful voice over the phone instructing me on how to apply and offering information on campus living or the friendly face that toured me around the gigantic campus that is South, I still would be. So if you really want to give back to your community, become that helpful voice or friendly face and help a fellow student.

Where To Study

My 4 Favorite Study Places On Campus Since the dawn of the academic era, students of all ages have been plagued with the dreaded task of.....STUDYING (**collective groan from all of mankind**) but, fear not for there have been discoveries made in how to make this gruesome yet necessary activity more bearable.  There are many ways to improve your study experience. Like putting together a playlists of your favorite songs to play while you study or having your favorite brain-food close by. One factor that is often looked over though, is location. South offers ample places for its students to study. Over the course of my short time here I've narrowed my favorite places to study to 4 main spots. 1. Student Center The lobby of the Student Center has lots of work spaces with comfy chairs just for you (careful though sleep may occur). 2. Marx Library Marx has computers, printers, work spaces and best of all... Starbucks. What more could you ask for? 3.  Residency Hal

This Is Me My name is Christian Young and I am nineteen years old. I was born in Birmingham, AL, but primarily grew up in in Mobile. I graduated from Murphy High School in May 2018 and I am now a freshman at The University of South Alabama. I As of right now my major is Electrical Engineering, but it is liable to change. My favorite thing about South is definitely the convenience of it all. From the JagTran to the Student Center, almost everything I need is right here on campus.
